I think that the style and the way you review an article it's very important to help in a constructive way. As the text says, Been kind and empathetic in the way you advise the author, it will help him in his intellectual exercise, and yours as well.
It's very important to try to explain things in a simple way, not only to make it easier for the author to understand, but because the idea of an article is its diffusion. That means that the greater number of people can read and understand it.
Also, i think it's very important to be exactly in aspects you think the author can improve, because it doesn't work if you write inaccurate or vague things just to say something. On the other hand i think it is very difficult to show your work to someone, and let it criticize. And in that sense, i think that the sense of empathy is very important.
Whenever you review an article you should think about how you would like it to be reviewed to you, which things would offend you or seem unnecessary.
In the same way, it is necessary to understand that whoever revises a text or an article is in a position of power in relation to the author (that is why he specifically asked him and not someone else). This means that the author respects and obeys the person who revises.
